Apples and oranges are certainly the most frequently appearing fruits in painting.
Main subjects of still lives or held by the hands of famous people, the orange has moved and inspired a lot of artists. Among many others, such as Matisse whom we use a litho for the background of this page, Picasso, Zubaran, Eluard, Rembrandt, Boticelli, Raphael, and Cezanne are not to be forgotten.

The orange has inspired many poets and writers, singers and dancers.
Not to mention 'Tintin' , our national comic strip hero, living an adventure called 'Tintin and the blue oranges'.

The orange is celebrated yearly in Belgium with the 'Binche Carnival' since the XVI century (awarded in 2003 as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO) , and in France with the 'Menton Carnival'.

And last but not least, the yearly contest held in France which is lead by movie critic journalists and give away a reward to the most smiling and cooperative actor of the year : The Orange Prize.
